Going Home

We are at the gate waiting to board the flight for home.

It has been a great trip, the surprise for Teresa and Ron was a huge success.

Now we just want to be home and pick up Bob.
A big Thank You to Cherie and CC for taking care of Bob while we were away.

One down

One flight down and one to go.

We have arrived in Frankfurt about one hour late due to a late departure from Ibiza.
We each got an aisle seat, but then a couple with a baby came and sat next to me...
Fortunately the plane was only about half full so the flight attendant moved them to an empty row.
Now we can kick back for a while.
We can take our luggage and check in after 6:00 tonight. Tomorrow we just go right to the gate. (Apart from the double layer security)

Ibiza

We are at the airport getting ready to leave for Frankfurt.
The inbound plane has just arrived so we are guessing that it will be an on time departure. From the looks of the gate area, the plane is not going to be crowded.

Moving On

The happening place - or should I say the ONLY place!- in Portinatx where you could party after midnight ( because it's such a quiet place, is Vincent's Irish bar, where there was an Elvis/ Johnny Cash impersonator who was pretty good. He ran through all the " Who's here
from England/Germany/France?" and never even mentioned the U.S. ! Guess Ibiza is definitely off the beaten track for Americans, except in the party towns.

What kinda Johnny Cash impersonator doesn't have a black cowboy hat? This guy had to borrow Norman's for the pic!!!

There may not have been any Yanks in Portinatx, but there were some Sunderland soccer supporters! ( Yeah, Mike!) This guy Norman quipped was, "Typical Sunderland - up shit creek with a fishing net for a paddle!!!"
He was actually a really nice guy - from BLAYDON_ and justified his support of Sunderland instead of newcastle in that Blaydon and Sunderland used to BOTH be in County Durham before they messed with the boundaries!

That's the end of Anne's cra *- er, I mean, "contribution"
Today (Friday) we drove back down to Cala Den Bossa and picked up Tess & Ron.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, Ron has a fantastic memory and recalled a place called Cala Salada that we visited back in the 70's.
As it is a bit of a difficult spot to get to down a twisty steep 1 1/2 lane blacktop Anne and Tess decided to be dropped off in San Antonio.
Even with Ron's amazing memory, it took almost an hour to make a ten minute drive.
But we made eventually and it was worth the effort.

It is a fabulous little cove only accessible by boat or down the goat track that is laughingly called a road.

We met back up with the girls in San Antonio where I Saw the sign below!
If you are of a nervous disposition you may not want to look at this picture.

Tonight we will spend our last night together in Calla Den Bossa before Anne and I head back to Frankfurt tomorrow.

Yesterday afternoon we decided to sit at the little beach bar opposite our hotel.
It was great, far enough away from the kids at the pools in the hotel and with a decidedly laid back attitude.

This is the view from the bar.

Here is madame headed back to the bar after crossing the beach.
Today we are in Santa Eularia on the east coast of the island. It is a beautiful little place with lots of market vendors selling local arty crafty stuff which is probably made in China.

There is a beautiful fountain near the ocean in the center of a very pleasant walk along the beach .

In a while we will drive back to Portinatx and head for the beach bar.
Tomorrow we head back to Cala Den Bossa for one last night with Teresa and Ron before leaving for Frankfurt on Saturday.
More soon.

Caves

Today we visited the caves at Can Marca.
These are very old, maybe 100,000 years with lots of stalagmites and stalactites.

The caves were used by smugglers 100 - 200 years ago and are now a tourist attraction.

The tour groups are divided by language, unfortunately we ended up in the German speaking group. But then on the other hand we did not have to put up with the moaning Brits complaining about the tea, the water, the price of everything etc.

This is the view from the entrance to the caves.

Inside the caves.

Some of the pools are lit to heighten the effect.

More soon from the Leopard Restaurant in San Antonio.

Moved On

Today we moved up to Portinatx to the second apartment.
Whilst a very nice place with a stupendous view you need a native guide and a pack mule to get your luggage from reception to the room.

Two elevator rides an four sets of stairs!

We took a walk into the town to check out the stores and the bars.

You don't need a lot of Spanish to understand what they sell here!

Leon, see what they had just for you, purple Crocs.

We are spending three days here and then back to Playa D'En Bossa for one night before flying back to Frankfurt.

Here is madame having one of those Belgian beers on the balcony!

Ibiza

We have really enjoyed the last couple of days with Teresa and Ron.
We have visited all of the old haunts from 40 years ago.
Fortunately Ron has a fantastic memory and not only remember the
places but also where they are.

We picked up a couple broads in the bar last night, the things you do when you've been drinking.

We took a trip to a couple places around the island, Santa Eulalia, San Antonio, Portinatx. A few pictures are below.

Santa Eulalia

Ibiza town from the old battlements.

Norm with Teresa in Ibiza town.

Deep in conversation (AGAIN)
These two could talk under water!

Our favorite pirate girl!
She was in Amsterdam last time we saw her.
I'm sure that Leon remembers our encounter.

Here's Ron walking down the battlements, not bad for two artificial knees.

We arrived back at one of our favorite watering holes this afternoon to watch the planes come in.

Gear down, 30 degrees of flap, real short final.

More soon, we move hotels tomorrow, Portinatx is next.

Surprise

We arrived in Ibiza after a bit of an eventful flight from Frankfurt.
First we were delayed as a person had checked in luggage and then not boarded the plane. We waited until the luggage was removed.
Off we went headed for Ibiza from the bumpiest runway known to man.
About 20 minutes into the flight a medical emergency was declared and we went back to Frankfurt.
Finally at 6:30 AM we left from old bumpy again and headed for Ibiza.
The captain put his foot down and we made it in 2 hours.
We picked up our rental car and set off to find Anne's sister and brother - in - law.
After we found their hotel we tried having the reception call the room with no luck. We tried having some one call their cell phone , no luck.
Then just when we were about out of ideas, Teresa just happened to walk out of the front door.
We had to scramble to get the gift presentation and pictures lined up.
Teresa was taken completely by surprise.

And so too was Ron!

So after getting over the shock we headed for a watering hole.
We found the noisiest place on the beach and sat there watching the scenery and the planes coming in.

Look what they had!

Frankfurt

We arrived right on time and were able to check in immediately.
We decided to go down down on the UBAHN (underground railroad) to the main rail depot. As we left to walk into the center of the city, there were four burly cops at either side of the doorway. You had to squeeze between them
to get out. When we got outside, we found that the light tram system was not running and that there were cops every where. As we detoured around them to get to where we wanted to be we found a big section of the financial district locked off. OCCUPY was in town!
On the way back to hotel by cab, driven by a guy with a great command of English and a degree in modern economics (or he seemed to know a lot about it) we were told that all of the hotels had cops staying in them because they had been brought in from all over Germany.

In the Romerburg district.

The trip has begun

We are at the airport ready to leave for Frankfurt.
The limo picked us up at home and brought us out to the Tom Bradley terminal, we have been using this company since 2008 and they are great.

Check out the new Budweiser label.

The travel season is about to begin.
Anne and I are off to foreign parts on May 17th, there will be an update once we get there.
I took a trip up to Las Vegas on business during the week and a view from my desk is shown!
